Day 263

Lots of catching up to do here. The last few weeks have been a blur of college visits and total eclipses.

First, all the cabinets are in! Here’s a look at the kitchen post-installation:

The Husband and I took a little field trip down to San Jose this week to map out the exact cuts for our quartz countertops:

Unfortunately, tiling had to take a little break so the cabinets could be installed. So far, the two smaller bathrooms and the mud room are fully tiled and grouted. Our bathroom and the laundry room are still works in progress, and tiling in the kitchen has yet to begin.

Additionally, flooring has begun. So far, the process has involved a LOT of prep work. I barely had time to open and close my new cabinets before they were all papered over:

The subfloors - which were covered in dust and bits of mudding - have all been sanded and vacuumed, and portions of the floors have been painted with a green moisture barrier. Plus…we now have finished stairs!

Meanwhile, I’ve been swatching every room with the color options that Kylie suggested:

…and here are our final selections! (I swear these are all very different colors, although admittedly I have a thing for off-whites and greiges).

I’m particularly excited that so much of the new house will be painted with Benjamin Moore’s Classic Gray. I think it’s my favorite paint color of all time. Interior painting will take place between flooring stages; floors will be installed and lightly sanded, then painting will take place, then floors will be sanded again and finished.

Along the way, I encountered several paint colors that, no matter how lovely they are, I would never chose just because of their terrible names. I give you, in no particular order, Raccoon Fur, Mayonnaise, Accessible Beige, and Dead Salmon.

I believe exterior painting starts next week. Once that’s done, the scaffolding can come down and we can get started on the landscaping/hardscaping. We’re still working on plans for that one, but here’s a little peek of the front yard all pretty. I literally squealed with delight when I saw this. I really miss my sweet little trees.
