Regrets, I’ve Had a Few
As part of the new power line relocation sub-project, Ruby the Redwood got a much needed haircut yesterday. We also removed two scraggly birch trees near the side fence and gave Opal the Oak a good trim. Tree maintenance is not cheap, and this added an unanticipated $4,500 to costs. That said, we had previously planned on spending around $10k to move the power line to a midspan location. Since we no longer need to do that, I expect our final bill from PG&E to be significantly less. Plus, the trees really needed the care. The last time we them trimmed was in 2016, shortly after we bought the house.
Sadly, the arborist confirmed my suspicion that the beautiful western redbud that used to be the focal point of our front yard did not survive its relocation to the backyard. I am, admittedly, a bit heartsick about this. This was the tree that the Daughters stood next to for every back-to-school photo from 2017-2022, and I loved seeing it grow with them. We had to move it, since it sat right smack in front of our new entrance location, but I really wish I’d taken the time to consult with an arborist and had its move professionally managed. Rest in peace, sweet little tree.
