The Home Stretch
It’s finally June. I almost cannot believe that we are just a few (3? 4?) weeks away from moving back into our home.
Painting feels like it has taken forever. When I first noticed that painting was slated for 21 work days on our construction calendar, my first thought was “no way.” But way, people…way. Apparently brand new walls need a ton of preparation, and this whole process has seemed painfully slow. All the boring stuff (think priming, taping, sanding, painting ceilings & moulding, etc.) came first and now, finally, we are getting to the good stuff.
As far as I can tell, two rooms are now fully painted: Daughter #2’s room and the laundry room.
All the trim (crown moulding and baseboards) and closets throughout the house are done, and all ceilings upstairs have been painted. The only unpainted items are the walls: Daughter #1’s room, our bedroom, and the two bathrooms. Downstairs, the ceilings still needed to be painted, and then the walls: hallways, kitchen, mudroom, living room, office, and bathroom. The dining room is scheduled to be wallpapered on June 10. We also seem to be part-way through the process of painting the La Cantina doors, the front door, and the back door black. The first two have been started but the back door is still just primed:
I’m so glad I went over to the house this weekend because I JUST realized I ordered the wrong paint for Daughter #1’s room. I wanted White DOVE at 150%, but I apparently asked for White DOWN (the color of the guest room/office) at 150%. Good thing they’d just started!
The painters are supposed to be finishing up this week, so I’m expecting a lot of fun updates when we stop by the Project after work.
The other sub-project that is due to be completed this week is the hardscape. I am so, so glad we decided to do this now. It really looks fabulous.
Driveway is done!
Concrete was poured for the rear steps on Friday.
Next week (the week of June 10th) sets off a flurry of activity that will ultimately determine just how quickly we get to move back in. Here’s what’s on the horizon:
the landscapers will begin installing irrigation and plantings, focusing on the front yard first
the electricians will come back to finish wiring outlets and install all lighting fixtures
the plumbers will install all fixtures (tub, toilets, faucets, etc.)
the finish carpenter will install the closet shelving and all cabinet handles
the appliances will be installed
In the meantime, our family will be celebrating Daughter #1’s high school graduation!
